The Benefits of LED Lights for Livestock and Agricultural Farmers

LEDWisonsin specializes in providing LED lighting products to dairy, equine, poultry, and swine livestock farmers. LED lights have steadily become the norm for the farming industry over fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. LED lights for farmers have several benefits including reducing energy costs, improving safety measures, possibly receiving rebates, and extending the life of your lights.

LED lights use less energy to produce the same amount or more illumination as incandescent lightbulbs, greatly reducing energy consumption costs from your provider. Because LED lights use energy more efficiently and are oftentimes brighter, farmers end up purchasing fewer lights, another cost saving measure in the long run.

Brighter LED lights also help to promote safety and security for farm workers, as well as livestock. Maintaining well-illuminated barns and facility spaces mitigates worker injuries and increases the safety of your animals. According to the University of Kentucky, LED light exposure has also been shown to have a positive impact on dairy cow milk quantity production. The study also found that cows exposed to controlled photoperiod lighting at younger ages had higher rates of increased milk production throughout their lifespan.

All the LED lights LEDWisconsin offers are rebate eligible to help offset the cost of purchase. Many energy companies offer rebates for LED lights that meet certain criteria. While this criteria does differ depending on the individual energy company requirements, LEDWisconsin does supply all the necessary information you will need to apply for your rebate and will work with your utility company to provide any additional information as needed.

HVLS Fans for Different Applications

At LEDWisconsin, our specialty is LED lighting for different agriculture applications however, we have expanded our offering to HVLS, commercial fans.

We recently had the opportunity to interview a recent customer with an Airplane Hangar that was having issues with temperature control.

What was the problem(s) in your hangar that led to the interest in the fans?

The hangar is a large space so temperature and humidity control can be challenging.

Did the fans solve the issue/have you noticed the benefits yet?

Yes, the air circulation from our fans vastly improves temperature and humidity control. We see two major benefits from the fans: Asset preservation for the aircraft stored in the hangar and reduction in heating costs. A third significant benefit would be the improved employee work environment in the summer months. Many employees and visitors in the hangar raved about how much more comfortable the hangar was with fans running.

Were there any challenges or concerns during the installation? Other than the set screws on the tips.

The first challenge was correct mounting equipment to adapt to our hangar structure. The manufacturer worked hard to support our needs with onsite meetings and prompt production. The second unexpected challenge was our incomplete building wiring. The installer and original electrical contractor were able to quickly solve the issue together.

Would you recommend our fans to other hangars?

Absolutely. They are a superior product at a competitive price and a great investment for comfort, asset preservation and reduced operating costs.

What advice would you give someone who wants to install fans?

Do it.

LED Wisconsin’s Lights Certified as Rebate Eligible

Offset Costs for LED Lighting Systems

Over the years, increasing amounts of agricultural and livestock farmers have made the switch to LED lighting systems in their facility spaces and barns. LED lights provide a variety of benefits for farmers and to help offset purchasing costs, many utility companies also offer rebates.

LEDWisconsin is proud to offer customers a variety of high quality LED lights that are all rebate eligible to help you get the most out of your purchase. Keep reading to learn more about how to apply for LED lighting rebates for farmers from your utility company.

What Certifications Make LED Lights Rebate Eligible for Farmers?

In order for LED lights to qualify for rebate opportunities, they must be DLC (Design Lights Consortium) listed and certified. This certification is on a national level and is recognized by most utility companies to make LED lights rebate eligible for farmers. However, not all utility companies abide by the same rebate process requirements, so make sure to contact your specific energy provider to learn what LED lighting rebate conditions they have.

The DLC makes regular updates to its listing requirements to ensure LED lights are safe, high performing, and meet changing industry needs. In order for their LED light to receive a DLC qualification listing, lighting manufacturers must adhere to the following process:

  1. Submit an application with certified lab tests validating the light’s measurements

  2. Review from the DLC to verify paperwork and documentation

  3. Full review from DLC to ensure the light meets Product Eligibility and Technical Requirements for rebate eligible certification

  4. Light is listed on the DLC Qualified Product List making it rebate eligible for most utility companies

The DLC list qualifies different types of commercial LED lights including:

  • LED Luminaires

  • Retrofit Kits

  • Linear Replacement Lamps

  • Mogul Screw-Base Replacement Lamps

  • Four Pin-Base Replacement Lamps

LEDWisconsin provides a variety of DLC certified LED lights that are ideal for farmers for a variety of uses and applications. Our team will work with you to understand your needs and ensure you receive the light that will best work for your unique circumstances.

How to File for LED Lighting Rebates as a Farmer?

Each energy company will have a slightly different process applicants need to follow when submitting for an LED lighting rebate for farmers. Applicants should contact their specific power provider to understand their LED lighting rebate eligibility requirements and what information will be needed to complete the rebate process. LED lighting rebates for farmers are provided by a utility company, not the manufacturer of the actual light.

As stated above, the specific information needed for the LED lighting rebate submission may vary across energy companies; however, common information that may be requested is:

  • The previous light type (if the new LED lighting is a retro fit)

  • The number of new LED lights being installed

  • The number of old lights being replaced

  • The wattage of the LED lights being installed

  • The DLC number of the LED lights

After you purchase your upgraded LED light(s) from LEDWisconsin, the invoice you receive will usually have all the necessary information your utility company will need in order to process an LED lighting rebate. The team at LEDWisconsin is also available to work with your power company if any additional information is needed. Our priority is providing dedicated customer service at every stage of the sales process to ensure you have the best experience and support possible.
